Happy December, Everyone!

Today is the second day of December. This means that Winter is well on it’s way, and along with it, Christmas. And along with Christmas, Holiday Advertisements! Now, I’m not very fond of the idolization of material goods and the promotion of consumerism and blah blah blah. However, I do recognize the fact that Holiday Advertising is and has been a big part of my life as well as American culture in general. For example, a majority of Christmas carols began as jingles for ads. Fancy that! When I was five, I honestly believed that Rudolph The Red-Nosed Reindeer was an American folk tale of times long past. Then again, I was also five. It was these little pieces of culture that shaped our understanding of the Holidays and were partially responsible for our thin wallets and empty coin purses. They And now I reach my point.

Bethany Cosentino of Best Coast has collaborated with her boyfriend, Wavves‘ Nathan Williams, on a Christmas-themed song for the Target Corporation. It’s called “Got Something For You” and sounds exactly like you would expect a song written by Bethany Cosentino and Nathan Williams to sound like. It’s poppy, catchy, and probably going to convince me to go buy my girlfriend a gift from Target. What kind of gift is beyond me.
I wonder if Bethany and Nathan will collaborate in the future on something they’re more passionate about. It would definitely make for an interesting listen. Other artists that have been contributed to Target’s campaign include Darker My Love, Blackalicious, and Coconut Records. I’ve included CR’s track below as well because it’s not half bad and I have quite the soft spot for the band.
