Broadcast’s Trish Keenan passed away this morning. I remember when I first saw Broadcast a couple of years ago at Fun Fun Fun Fest. It was an experience unlike many others. As a matter of fact, Broadcast’s sound was unlike many others, which was greatly due to Keenan’s unique vocal ability. To this day, The Noise Made By People remains one of my favorite albums of all time, and without her, it wouldn’t exist. She will truly be missed. My condolences to her friends and family.

Broadcast – Echo’s Answer

Just as I began to write this post, the reverberating shiny sound of “Echo’s Answer” stopped. I really was moved by the depth of the song. I heard it and immediately associated it with electronic music that I had heard before, but then came the vocals. They cut through the machine like sounds to give a human sound. “OHHH OHHH” was the last thing I remember. I just learnt of Trish’s death and also discovered the band and their music.
Life can be short (or it is), but I think she must have done something extraordinary. Her song came and went so quickly, but I can still hear it, the sound in my mind.
I wish the band all of the success in the future and I hope they continue. Trish may she rest in peace.
